Sculptra® Care Guide

Stimulating Your Body’s Natural Collagen for Long-Lasting Facial and Body Rejuvenation

Unlike traditional dermal fillers that primarily restore volume by placing a gel beneath the skin, Sculptra® is a collagen biostimulator. It works by encouraging your body to gradually produce new collagen, helping restore skin structure, improve firmness, and soften age-related volume loss over time.

At LumiLife Aesthetics + Wellness, Sculptra is used as part of our regenerative aesthetic philosophy. Rather than creating dramatic changes overnight, Sculptra works gradually to improve skin quality and restore youthful facial contours using your body’s own natural collagen-building processes.

Because collagen develops slowly, the results appear progressively over several weeks and months, creating subtle, natural-looking improvements.

What Is Sculptra?

Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biodegradable material that has been used safely in medicine for many years.

After injection, the PLLA particles stimulate fibroblasts—the cells responsible for producing collagen.

Over time, your body gradually replaces the product with newly formed collagen, resulting in improved skin support and volume.

The product itself is eventually absorbed by the body.

What Can Sculptra Treat?

Sculptra may be recommended for:

Facial Rejuvenation

  • Age-related facial volume loss
  • Hollow cheeks
  • Temples
  • Jawline definition
  • Chin contour
  • Deep facial folds
  • Mild skin laxity
  • Overall facial rejuvenation
Body Rejuvenation

At LumiLife, Sculptra may also be used for selected body treatments, including:

  • Buttock enhancement (LumiLift™ Butt Enhancement)
  • Hip dips
  • Cellulite improvement (selected patients)
  • Skin quality and firmness
  • Body contour enhancement

Sculptra does not create the same amount of immediate volume as surgical fat transfer or implants. Instead, it works gradually by stimulating collagen production over time.

Before Your Treatment

Proper preparation may help minimize bruising and improve your overall experience.

Please

Eat a light meal before your appointment.

Stay well hydrated.

Arrive with clean skin.

Inform your physician of all medications, allergies, supplements, and previous injectable treatments.

If Approved by Your Treating Physician

Certain medications and supplements may increase bruising.

After discussing with the physician managing your medications, you may consider temporarily avoiding for approximately 5–7 days before treatment:

  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen
  • Naproxen
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin E
  • Garlic supplements
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • Ginseng
  • Other supplements with blood-thinning effects

Do not discontinue prescription anticoagulants unless specifically approved by the physician who prescribed them.

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol for approximately 24 hours before treatment, as it may increase bruising.

Please Inform Your Physician If You Have

  • Active skin infection
  • Fever
  • Cold sores
  • Recent facial surgery
  • Dental infection
  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Bleeding disorders

Treatment may need to be postponed if infection is present.

What Happens During Treatment?

Your physician will first evaluate your facial anatomy and review your individualized treatment plan.

The treatment area is cleansed, and local anesthetic is used to maximize comfort.

Sculptra is injected into carefully selected areas using either a blunt cannula or fine needle, depending on the treatment area.

Unlike traditional fillers, the volume you see immediately after treatment is largely due to the sterile water used to prepare the product. This temporary fullness gradually subsides over the next few days before your body’s natural collagen production begins.

Most treatments require approximately 45–60 minutes.

What Should I Expect After Treatment?

It is normal to experience:

  • Mild swelling
  • Redness
  • Tenderness
  • Bruising
  • Temporary fullness
  • Mild firmness

These effects generally improve within several days.

Because Sculptra stimulates collagen gradually, you should not expect immediate long-term volume restoration.

When Will I See Results?

Most patients begin noticing gradual improvement within 4–8 weeks.

Collagen production continues over several months.

Maximum improvement often develops after completing the recommended treatment series.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Unlike many dermal fillers, Sculptra is usually performed as a series of treatments.

Many patients benefit from:

  • 2–4 treatment sessions
  • Treatments spaced approximately 4–8 weeks apart

The exact number depends on:

  • Age
  • Degree of volume loss
  • Skin quality
  • Treatment area
  • Individual goals

Your physician will create a personalized treatment plan during your consultation.

How Long Do Results Last?

Because Sculptra stimulates your own collagen production, improvements may last more than two years in many patients, although individual results vary.

Maintenance treatments may be recommended to help preserve results over time.

After Your Treatment
