Kybella® & PCDC Care Guide
Physician-Directed Injectable Fat Reduction for Selected Areas of Localized Fat
At LumiLife Aesthetics + Wellness, we understand that even with a healthy lifestyle, small areas of localized fat may be difficult to improve through diet and exercise alone.
Injectable fat reduction may be an option for carefully selected patients seeking nonsurgical body contouring. Depending on the treatment area and your individual goals, your physician may recommend either Kybella® or PCDC.
These treatments are designed to reduce localized fat deposits gradually and are not intended for weight loss or treatment of obesity.
Understanding Your Treatment Options
Kybella®
Kybella® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable medication for improving the appearance of moderate to severe submental fullness (double chin).
Its active ingredient is synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule that helps break down dietary fat.
When injected into appropriate areas beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells. Once those fat cells are eliminated, they cannot store or accumulate fat again.
PCDC (Phosphatidylcholine / Deoxycholic Acid)
PCDC is an injectable solution that combines phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholic acid.
Although widely used by experienced aesthetic physicians in many countries, PCDC is not FDA-approved in the United States for cosmetic fat reduction. Its use for body contouring is considered off-label.
At LumiLife, PCDC may be recommended for selected patients after a comprehensive medical evaluation and informed consent discussion regarding the current evidence, potential benefits, alternatives, and possible risks.
What Areas Can Be Treated?
Depending on your anatomy and treatment goals, injectable fat reduction may be considered for carefully selected areas such as:
Kybella®
- Double chin (submental fullness)
PCDC (Selected Patients)
- Small pockets of abdominal fat
- Flanks (“love handles”)
- Bra-line fullness
- Upper back
- Inner thighs
- Outer thighs
- Knees
- Upper arms
- Small areas of localized body fat
Treatment recommendations are individualized and based on your examination.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Are close to your ideal body weight
- Have localized fat deposits
- Have good skin elasticity
- Prefer a nonsurgical treatment
- Have realistic expectations
Injectable fat reduction is not recommended for generalized obesity or significant skin laxity.

What Happens During Treatment?
Your physician will evaluate the treatment area and mark the injection sites.
The skin is cleansed, and treatment is performed using multiple small injections.
Depending on the area treated, a topical anesthetic, ice, or local anesthetic may be used to improve comfort.
Most appointments require approximately 30–45 minutes.
What Should I Expect After Treatment?
Temporary swelling is an expected part of treatment.
You may also experience:
- Redness
- Tenderness
- Firmness
- Bruising
- Mild numbness
- Temporary itching
Swelling beneath the chin following Kybella treatment is often more noticeable during the first several days and generally improves gradually over the following weeks.
When Will I See Results?
Fat reduction occurs gradually as your body naturally clears the treated fat cells.
Most patients begin noticing improvement within 6–8 weeks, although results vary.
Many patients require 2–4 treatment sessions, while others may benefit from additional treatments depending on the amount of localized fat being treated.
